How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal Fillers Information

Everyone has something about themselves that they would like to change – or at the very least enhance and make better. At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we offer a wide selection of dermal fillers, facial fillers, and other injectables to give our clients the facial features they’ve always wanted without having to go through intensive plastic surgery procedures.

While we have been professionally administering dermal fillers for years at Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we understand that not everyone is as familiar with these products and procedures. That’s why today we are taking a closer look at dermal fillers to understand what they are and how they may be a benefit to you.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a non-invasive alternative to minor facial enhancements. With age and other common factors, your skin starts to lose the fat under the skin. While losing fat is generally seen as a good thing, losing the layer of subcutaneous fat can cause your skin to sink and lose fullness, causing wrinkles and other issues. Dermal fillers seek to remedy that issue. With fillers, a solution is injected into the layers of the skin where subcutaneous fat has decreased to restore that layer and revitalize the look of those problem areas. Different fillers use different products in their solutions, so it is important to thoroughly research your fillers before deciding to undergo a procedure.

What Are Dermal Fillers Used For?

Dermal fillers can be used for a number of different treatments. Fillers can add fullness to lips, smooth creases and lines in the face, raise sunken cheeks, and even improve the appearance of scars. Different fillers can be used for different purposes. Juvederm® Ultra XC, for example, is used to plump lips, while Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC is used to treat more intense lines and wrinkles, as well as to shape and contour the cheek and chin area.

Should I Get Fillers?

If you have lines and wrinkles on your face that you would like smoothed out, or if you’ve always wanted fuller lips without having to go through surgery, you may be a prime candidate for dermal fillers. While fillers won’t give as drastic of a change as plastic surgery, they are an excellent option for those who are interested in natural-looking facial enhancements. As always, you should discuss any questions and concerns about the process with a professional before undergoing any type of procedure.

Myths About Laser Treatments

Common Myths About Laser Treatments

Laser treatments and myths

At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we’re dedicated to making sure that each and every one of our clients is not just comfortable and taken care of but confident, too. Whether you’re coming to us for laser treatments, BOTOX®, hormone replacement therapy, a deep tissue massage or one of the many other services that we can provide, we want you to be relaxed.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of myths out there about some of the therapies we offer. Some people might be understandably nervous or hesitant about getting certain things done. With the experience we have in helping people feel at home in their own bodies, we can give you the truth behind the myths, so you know you don’t need to worry.

In this blog, we’re going to look at some of the common myths about some of the laser treatments we offer at our spa in Tulsa.

There’s Only One Type

Most people outside of the cosmetic industry tend to assume that there’s only one type of laser treatment, typically associating it with laser hair removal. This is the first myth. There are actually a number of different laser treatments available, and all of them will apply different kinds of lasers, for different lengths of time and with different intensities. The type of laser will depend on what it’s being used for, and who the expert using it on your skin is.

Laser Hair Removal Is Painful

It’s easy to assume that having hair burnt away will hurt, but just how painful this type of hair removal is often overstated. In reality, there’s less pain, although no one can promise it will be pain-free. It’s usually felt as a pinprick or heat sensation, but it depends on the type of skin you have, and where the laser is being applied.

Lasers Damage and Thin Your Skin

This myth is definitely understandable since it would be safe to assume exposing your skin to a focused laser would do some damage. What this comes down to, however, is that your laser treatment is being carried out by a professional, who knows where, how, and for how long to apply a laser to a certain area.

A similar myth to this one is that laser exposure causes your skin to become thinner, but laser treatments are often used to plump the skin. Controlled heating in specific areas encourages the production of collagen and elastin, which your body uses to replace older tissue.

Laser Tattoo Removal Leaves Ugly Scars

Actually, the risk of scarring from laser tattoo removal is minimal. With proper application done over the right period of time, a professional using lasers to remove a tattoo will leave very little to absolutely no scarring. They can also give you advice on how to take care of the area you’re having the tattoo removed from, to help reduce the risk of scarring even further.

Laser Exposure Can Cause Cancer

Without getting too much into the physics side of things, lasers don’t actually operate at a wavelength that triggers cancerous growth. In fact, lasers are used to eliminate growths on the skin that can or have become cancerous.

It’s my birthday!

Written By: Ric Harrison

Help me CELEBRATE!

It’s my birthday month! I’ll be 54 tomorrow, April 7th.  Holy sh*t, where did the time go? You know what I mean? It seems like it was just yesterday I was at the high school football game. Where has the time gone? I just get tired sometimes of doing all this adult stuff, like paying the bills, going to work, getting the car fixed, making dinner, yada, yada, yada. But then I remember there are benefits to this adult stuff, I can stay out as late as I want, I can spend my money where I want, I can vote and most importantly, I can spoil my 3 precious grandsons and then send them home to their parents!

I love the saying, “do not regret growing older, it is a privilege denied to many”.  There was a time I didn’t think I would make it this far but I did and on most days, I’m grateful for that! I also realize that just because I am getting older doesn’t mean I should have to look my age.

I decided that when I turned 50 I would get this tired, battered old body and face into shape!  😂

Really, it wasn’t that bad. Sure, I’d been in the sun too much, put on a few extra pounds and didn’t pay as much attention to my face regime as I should have, but I knew I could look better. I joined the gym, watched what I ate and started looking for some enhancements for my face, neck & body. If you’ve been following our blog you know what some of those enhancements were, the good and the not so good. And if you haven’t been following our blog, then shame on you!  (feel free to catch up, we just started the blog in March).

There are so many affordable treatments that we can do to enhance our beauty. The gym, good skin care products, sunscreen (always), facials & peels, and maybe a little Botox, Kybella & Juvederm are just a few. These have all been things that have been helpful for me to look better, younger and feeling good about myself and my appearance.

For more information about the treatments and skincare I use, please contact Emerge Medical & Well Spa at 918.392.8606. If you mention me or this blog you will get a small gift for my birthday*The month of April 2017 only*

I celebrate each of you!
