Emerge: Should You Get Lash Extensions Or A Lift?

Closeup of woman with long eyelashes

Lash Lift or Lash Extensions – Emerge

I think it’s safe to say we’d all love to wake up with perfectly curled lashes. Putting on makeup can be a hassle, but with lash lifts or extensions, you eliminate the need for a lengthy beauty routine in the mornings. However, how do you choose between these two different lash enhancement options? We’ve written a blog to help decipher some of the differences, pros and cons of the various treatments so you can make an informed decision!

What is a Lash Lift?

It is essentially a perm for your lashes. The way it works is that the technician applies a number of serums and silicone shields that help shape the eyelashes into a semi-permanent curl that lasts up to 8 weeks. Often, when people get a lash lift, they also opt to get a lash tint so that from the moment you wake up it looks like you’re wearing mascara.

The great thing about lash lifts is they give you a completely natural look. They also require less maintenance than lash extensions. Though both last about 2 months, lash extensions require fillers every few weeks. The lash lift will hold without any additional maintenance required for those 8 weeks.

What are Lash Extensions?

Lash extensions are the addition of false lashes to the ends of your natural eyelashes. Extensions create a beautiful, dramatic look. They add not only length but also thickness. You will be able to choose the length and thickness you want – unlike lifting your natural lashes. You will; however, lose lashes as you naturally shed your own lashes. This is why extensions require you to come in every few weeks to get fillers to maintain that dramatic look.

So, Which One Is Better?

The answer to this question depends on the look you want and how much money and maintenance you’re willing to invest. If you really want a more dramatic look, and you can afford to come in for fill-in lashes, then lash extensions are for you. They are a beautiful choice! If you want something more low maintenance and natural (but still an enhanced lash look), then opt for a lash lift! We guarantee you’ll love your lashes either way!

Emerge: A Brief Explanation of Immunotherapy

Man sneezing in a field

Immunotherapy – Emerge Medical & Well Spa

Allergies can have a significant effect on your quality of life. If you are suffering from allergies, it is possible that immunotherapy can provide you with some much-needed relief. Read on to find out more about what exactly immunotherapy is and how it was developed!

What is Immunotherapy?

Immunotherapy is the practice of either subcutaneous or sublingual administration of allergens to an allergic individual. The idea is to help them slowly build up an immunity to the allergen so that, eventually, it no longer causes problems. This differs from medication in that it treats the underlying issues of the allergic reaction.

Subcutaneous Immunotherapy: This is administered as a vaccine. Due to its higher dosage, this type of immunotherapy should always be given by a trained medical professional.

Sublingual Immunotherapy: This tends to be a little safer because the doses are smaller. With this kind of immunotherapy, a drop of the allergen is placed under the tongue of the allergic individual. You can also take sublingual tablets.

A Brief History

The concept of immunotherapy was developed by physicians Noon and Freeman in the late 19th and early 20th century. Their research centered around hay fever. Noon recognized that when exposed to the hay fever toxin for long enough, some people built up an immunity to it. So, he hypothesized that if they injected allergic patients with a small dose of the toxin, over time, they would become immune. His hypothesis proved correct, and this method was used to treat hay fever throughout the 30s. Today it is a more mainstream medical practice for a variety of allergies, and it has improved the lives of many people.

Come See Us at Emerge!

Emerge: Should You Get Allergy Testing?

Person getting an allergy test

Allergy Testing – Emerge Medical & Well Spa

Allergies are a pain! Sometimes it can be hard to determine exactly what you’re allergic to and how to treat it. The best way to find out is to get an allergy test. Once you find out what’s disrupting your system, you’ll be able to develop a plan and get on the road to feeling better. Read on to find out more about what to expect from an allergy test!

Different Types of Allergy Testing

There are several different types of allergy tests from which you can choose. The most common type of allergy test is the puncture or prick test. The skin on your arm will be cleaned and labeled. After that, a drop of the allergen will be placed on your skin, and you’ll be pricked with a needle so that the allergen can be introduced into your system. An intradermal test is similar, except the allergen is injected directly into your skin. Finally, there’s the patch test in which a sticky patch, with the allergen present, is stuck to your skin. Different tests take different amounts of time to show results, so keep that in mind when deciding what method to employ.

How to Prepare for Your Allergy Test

It is important to disclose all the medications you’re taking and provide a medical history as well. If you’re taking antihistamines, you need to stop before you get an allergy test. Antihistamines stop allergic reactions and will, therefore, get in the way of accurate results.

What to Do After Your Allergy Test

If you find out that you’re allergic to something, it’s time to come up with a plan to treat your allergies. One of the best solutions is to use immunotherapy. The idea is to desensitize your immune system to antigens by introducing them in drops on your tongue or via injection. This is not a treatment that can be used for every allergy, so make sure you talk to your doctor.

Come to Emerge Medical and Well Spa

If you have an allergy and your doctor thinks that immunotherapy is right for you, then come to see us at Emerge Medical & Day Spa. We offer immunotherapy treatment as well as allergy testing. Contact us today to find out more about the process and how we can help improve your life!

Can Massage Therapy Help With Weight Loss?

Woman getting massage

Massage Therapy – Weight Loss – Emerge

If you’ve hit a snag in your weight loss journey, consider massage therapy to get over that plateau. Massage therapy can be a beneficial tool when it comes to losing weight. Read on to find out exactly how massage therapy can help you reach your weight loss goals!

Massage Therapy Helps Provide Stress Relief

When you experience stress, your body releases a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol can cause weight gain by causing your insulin levels to shoot up and your blood sugar levels to drop. This can cause you to crave sugary, fatty, carbohydrate-heavy foods – in other words, comfort foods. This, of course, leads to weight gain. If you’re able to lower these cortisol levels, you’ll experience fewer cravings, and it’ll be easier to make healthy food choices. So, if you’re feeling stressed, go get a massage!

Massage Therapy Helps with Muscle Recovery

Perhaps your weight gain has been in part due to an inability to be active. If you’ve pulled a muscle or experienced an injury in your workouts, a massage can help significantly. Consider getting a massage to help you get off the couch and back to the gym!

Massage Therapy Promotes Self-Care

Self-care is an important component of a weight loss journey. This is because self-care is a practice that prioritizes your physical and mental wellbeing. If you can get in the mindset of weight loss being an aspect of self-care, then it will be easier. Weight loss isn’t about punishing yourself, but rather about loving your body and giving it the proper nutrition and exercise.

Come See Us at Emerge!

If you’ve hit a rut in your weight loss endeavors, visit us at Emerge Medical & Well Spa. Making massage therapy a regular part of your self-care practice can lead to increased weight loss. So, don’t waste any more time. Contact us today to set up an appointment!

Learn All About the Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling procedure on woman’s face

The Benefits of Microneedling for Beautiful Skin

Microneedling is an advanced treatment that offers remarkable improvement for wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and acne scars. If you have tried other creams and treatments but you are still struggling with your skin, microneedling may be the answer you are looking for. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this procedure uses tiny needles to prick the skin and generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer skin. Though it may sound painful, it is a minimally invasive procedure. Today, Emerge Medical & Well Spa will explain all about microneedling to help you decide if this procedure is right for you.

How Does Microneedling Work?

The idea behind the procedure is to stimulate your skin with tiny, controlled pinpricks. This process causes your skin to respond by producing new collagen-rich tissue. The new tissue develops more evenly in tone and texture, resulting in firm, beautiful skin.

Does Microneedling Hurt?

Describing the procedure as painless would be an overstatement, but it certainly isn’t painful either. The sensation is similar to moving sandpaper across your skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating tip makes the treatment quite tolerable. For facial microneedling, the procedure lasts for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Which Areas are Treated with Microneedling?

Patients with facial concerns such as acne scars, fine lines, large pores, reduced skin elasticity, or uneven skin tone often seek microneedling treatment.

What to Expect After the Procedure?

As microneedling isn’t an invasive procedure, recovery time is minimal. Most people will simply notice slight skin irritation and redness for the first couple of days after treatment. You will need to apply sunscreen to your skin, as it will be more sensitive to the sun. You should see results from the treatment after several days. To maintain beautiful results, follow the instructions provided by the professionals at Emerge Medical & Well Spa.

How to Prepare for the Procedure?

Talk with your doctor before seeking microneedling treatment. You may need to stop taking certain medications in advance of the procedure. For instance, you may need to discontinue certain acne medications before your visit.

How Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy Helps Fight Aging

Older couple riding bicycles at the park

The Benefits of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is a process that helps to maintain optimal hormone levels in aging men and women. As we age, our declining hormone levels can have a significant impact on many of our body functions. Symptoms that we characterize as age-related issues such as low energy, weight gain and loss of libido are all associated with a decline in hormone levels. Today, the experts at Emerge Medical & Well Spa will discuss the many benefits of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

Why Choose Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy?

The goal of hormone therapy is to maintain a safe hormone level and help alleviate the symptoms commonly associated with aging. BHRT balances hormones such as testosterone, progesterone and estrogen, maintaining the healthy levels that patients enjoyed when they were younger. Reduced levels of these hormones has a tremendous impact on our day-to-day wellness.

For many years, medical researchers have worked to safely balance these hormones, but not without difficulty. In the past, many patients suffered significant health issues after being treated with synthetic Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy represents an advanced treatment that is safer and more effective than synthetic alternatives. BHRT utilizes hormones that are biologically identical to the molecular structure of the hormones your own body creates. Emerge Medical & Well Spa is proud to offer advanced Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy to our clients, delivering amazing benefits to health and beauty.

Symptoms of Low Testosterone in Men

Low levels of testosterone in a man can lead to much more than just low libido or erectile dysfunction. Symptoms associated with low testosterone include:

  • Loss of sex drive
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Increased body fat (particularly in the waist)
  • Decreased bone mass
  • Sudden mood changes
  • Decrease in mental performance
  • Irritability

Even worse, there are many studies that have shown health conditions associated with low testosterone, including:

  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Alcohol abuse
  • High Cholesterol

Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance in Women

There are a number of symptoms that could be a result of decreased hormone levels in women, many of which are common to women who have entered menopause, including:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Night sweats
  • Hot flashes
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Painful intercourse
  • Weight gain
  • Insomnia
  • Increased irritability
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Increased risk of UTIs
  • Cold hands and feet

If you have any of the above symptoms or any other symptoms of menopause, you may have a hormonal imbalance that can be treated with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.

How to Start Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

If you think that BHRT could be a solution for your symptoms, schedule a visit with Emerge Medical & Well Spa for a test of your current hormone levels. Our experts will provide you with a comprehensive consultation to determine if you are a candidate for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Aftercare Instructions: Tattoo Removal

Applying GauzeAftercare Advice for Tattoo Removal Procedures

At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we offer many exceptional services to our clients, one of which is laser treatment tattoo removal. Tattoos can be a beautiful and artistic way to express yourself and show the world who you are. However, from time to time mistakes are made, tattoos become outdated, and romances end. When this happens, don’t resign yourself to living with an unwanted tattoo, look to Emerge Medical & Well Spa for the perfect solution.

We are proud to offer PicoWay laser treatment, which uses a novel picosecond technology to quickly and safely deliver tiny blasts of light particles to the inked area. The energy in these lasers targets only the tattoo ink, not the sensitive skin around it, and requires far fewer applications than a typical laser removal service. Following the procedure, we give each client detailed instructions on how to care for the treatment area.

Directly After Laser Treatment

The first three days following your tattoo removal will be the most tender. The area should be kept clean and bandaged with gauze and medical tape. A thin layer of moisturizing antibiotic ointment will help prevent scarring and speed healing.

You shouldn’t wash the area during this three day healing process. Once healed, use a non-abrasive scent-free skin cleanser for skin care. Be sure that you avoid scrubbing the area as this could cause irritation.

Pain and Blisters Following Tattoo Removal

A little pain is normal after tattoo removal, and it can be treated with ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Don’t panic if you notice the lasered region of skin beginning to blister. Blisters are a common side effect of laser treatment, although the PicoWay laser system is more gentle than traditional lasers. Blisters will eventually break and drain, and the area will begin to feel better.

For three months after your tattoo removal, you should apply a generous dose of sunscreen before heading out into the sun. The laser treated portion of your skin will be sensitive to UV rays and more likely to be damaged by direct sunlight. During this time, continue to avoid scented moisturizers and creams to ensure optimal healing.

Healing For Good

By following these aftercare instructions, you can ensure that your tattoo removal area should be completely healed within 4-8 weeks after your treatment. Reach out to us if you notice problems with healing, including discoloration, bleeding or continued pain.

For a closer look at laser treatment and tattoo removal at Emerge Medical & Well Spa, visit our official PicoWay web page. You can also call our team here in Tulsa; our professional medical spa staff are always happy to meet new clients and answer any of your questions.

Common Reasons for Laser Treatment

Getting laser treatment

Why You Might Need Laser Treatment

There was once a time when lasers were the stuff of futuristic sci-fi movies. Today, lasers are part of everyday life at Emerge Medical & Well Spa, where we use the latest technological advances to offer health and beauty to our customers. Laser treatments are used for a variety of reasons, including the rejuvenation of skin and the removal of unwanted hair and blemishes. Read on to learn more about laser treatment and discover how this service can benefit your health and beauty.

Skin Resurfacing Laser Treatment

As we age, our bodies begin to change, our cells don’t regenerate as quickly, and our skin loses its natural beauty. Daily exposure to sun and wind damage affects the collagen in your skin, creating lines, wrinkles and skin spots.

At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we use Sublative laser treatments to successfully reverse mild and moderate skin imperfections, such as wrinkles and textural anomalies. This service allows you to rejuvenate your skin in a way that your cells can no longer accomplish naturally, resulting in smooth, supple and flawless younger looking skin.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Services

It’s not just the skin on your face which requires a little help with aging. As time goes on, women tend to lose some of the tightness and tone of the vagina. This can make sexual intimacy feel different and can take a toll on your self-esteem. Vaginal tone tends to be particularly different for women who have had children. You may notice that even something as simple as holding back urine can be difficult during a cough, sneeze or laugh. Changes in hormones also cause the vaginal skin to thin and natural lubrication to decrease.

Believe it or not, there is a laser treatment which can help with these problems, and it’s called CORE INTIMA. Our CORE INTIMA laser is a non-invasive, surgery-free method of improving tone and sensation in the vagina. We’re proud to note that over 73% of our customers have reported a positive difference, especially during intimacy, following this treatment.

Acne Scar Revision Treatment

Whether as a teen or as an adult, acne gets the best of us all. Pimples are an unfortunate side effect of the oils and pores in our skin. When pores or sebaceous oil glands become blocked with debris and oil, bacteria causes acne to form. When acne gets picked, scratched or poked, it can cause scarring on the face. Fortunately, our medical spa offers a solution in the form of Syneron Elos technology. This bi-polar radio frequency combined with blue light laser treatment kills the bacteria that causes acne and reduces the appearance of scarring.

Safe, effective and virtually painless, most of our clients resume work or school the same day they are treated. It’s an effective and affordable way to manage acne.

Laser Treatment for Hair Removal

Nobody likes shaving underarms, eyebrows and legs. Our hair laser treatment uses Candela technology called GentleLASE which removes unwanted hair without gel, razors or wax. This process is a perfectly safe and affordable way to get smooth, hairless skin.

Tattoo Removal By Laser

Some tattoos are keepers, but from time to time even the biggest tattoo enthusiast gets some ink they wish they hadn’t. Removing tattoos was once impossible, but our advanced laser technology allows us to remove unwanted tattoos and help your skin look clean and new again.

If you’re interested in learning more about any of the treatment options at Emerge Medical & Well Spa, give us a call! Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are happy to help our clients understand our procedures and determine which are best suited to their needs.

Why You Should Get Allergy Testing and Immunotherapy at Emerge Medical & Well Spa

Young woman suffering from allergies

Benefits of Allergy Testing and Immunotherapy at Emerge Medical & Well Spa

Anyone who has experienced seasonal allergies knows exactly how debilitating they can be. Symptoms like headaches, skin rashes, sinus infections, and breathing problems can all be a result of allergic reactions. At Emerge Medical & Well Spa, we offer full-service allergy testing and immunotherapy treatment so you can be free from your allergies. Learn more about the benefits of our Allergy Testing and Immunotherapy treatment and why you should schedule an appointment with Emerge Medical & Well Spa today.

Why We Experience Allergic Reactions

Our immune system produces substances known as antibodies. When you experience allergic reactions, your body produces antibodies in order to combat allergens that your body mistakenly thinks are harmful even though they aren’t. Your immune system reacts to what it sees as a potential threat, causing inflammation of your skin, sinuses, airways, and digestive system.

So many things can cause an allergic reaction in daily life that many people struggle to identify the exact cause of their reactions. However, Allergy Testing with Emerge Medical & Well Spa helps you uncover exactly what causes your reactions, so you can finally do treat them with immunotherapy.

In theory, avoiding your allergic triggers would prevent you from experiencing your symptoms. However, avoidance is often either difficult or impossible. For instance, if you have a reaction to pet dander, you certainly won’t want to part ways with your puppy. Or if you have a pollen allergy, you are still going to need to go outside during pollen season. So what can you do for treatment?

Emerge Medical & Well Spa has the solution in the form of immunotherapy treatment. Immunotherapy treatment works by slowly introducing those allergens in tiny amounts via injections or drops under your tongue. As the treatment progresses, the concentration increases until you reach a maintenance level where your immune system recognizes the element as harmless and no longer reacts with antibodies.

This is the only treatment that is designed to fix the root cause of your allergy problems, instead of simply treating the symptoms. In addition, the results are long-term — potentially even permanent.

Contact Emerge Medical & Well Spa Today

If you suffer from allergies and need a solution, contact Emerge Medical & Well Spa to set up an appointment for a consultation today. You can call us at 918-392-8606 to speak with one of our specialists, or you can submit an appointment application online.
